Australian-Made Ceramic Lighting for Residential and Commercial Interiors
Anchor’s Australian-made ceramic lighting brings warmth, texture and material depth to an interior, offering an alternative to more conventional decorative lighting. Handmade ceramic wall lights and pendants introduce a softer, more tactile quality to residential and commercial spaces, with subtle variation that reflects the handmade process.
At Miko Designs, we present a curated range of ceramic lighting by Anchor, designed and made in Melbourne by Bruce Rowe. The collection includes ceramic wall lights, pendants and exterior lighting suited to residential homes, hospitality venues and commercial interiors across Australia.
Ceramic lighting works particularly well within interiors that prioritise natural materials and layered lighting. From ambient wall lighting in living rooms and bedrooms to statement lighting in restaurants, boutique accommodation and workplace settings, ceramic fixtures provide both functional illumination and sculptural presence.
Each Anchor piece is individually handmade using traditional ceramic techniques, resulting in slight variation in texture, glaze and form. This process gives the lighting a material authenticity that sits comfortably within contemporary Australian interiors.
Many pieces within the collection are also suited to outdoor and wet-area applications, making them appropriate for courtyards, exterior walls, hospitality settings and covered outdoor spaces.
As part of our broader lighting collection, Anchor complements our range of Australian and European lighting, including architectural and commercial lighting suited to larger-scale projects.
Environmental Research & Material Innovation
Anchor’s lighting extends beyond aesthetics and craftsmanship, with the studio also undertaking ongoing research into material innovation, waste reduction and responsible production processes. Their interdisciplinary research and development programme explores how ceramic waste and industrial by-products can be reimagined as new material resources within contemporary lighting and object design.
This approach is particularly evident within the Ridge collection, which draws from Anchor’s broader research into tactility, materiality and circular making processes. Ridge is produced using a proprietary ceramic material developed from recycled post-industrial waste, reflecting the studio’s ongoing exploration into environmentally responsible ceramic production.
Anchor’s material research includes transforming construction brick waste into ceramic grog, which is then integrated into clay bodies to improve durability, reduce cracking and create richly textured ceramic surfaces. The studio also experiments with reclaiming production offcuts, glaze waste and paper waste generated through its own making processes.
Rather than treating waste purely as a by-product, Anchor approaches these materials as an opportunity for creative and technical development. This research-led approach informs both the performance and material character of the lighting, resulting in pieces that balance durability, sculptural form and environmental consideration.
